Before hitting the road this summer, you can take several simple precautions to keep your family safe and save money at the pump. Extreme heat and long drives can be tough on your vehicle. Cracked hoses, leaky radiators, under inflated tires and dirty filters can significantly lower your fuel efficiency, or worse, lead to a total breakdown when you’re least expecting it.

Here at Ray’s Auto Repair We offer a courtesy summer check with any Lube Oil & Filter change.

What Our Courtesy Check Includes

Air Conditioning Temperature Out of Vents

Nightmare scenario: On the hottest day of the year, your car’s air conditioner begins blowing hot air. Not good. There are three primary reasons why this can occur.

  1. Refrigerant Leak: This is a unique issue where refrigerant evaporates instantly into a gas once it no longer under the pressure of your closed loop air conditioning system. If the refrigerant level is low then there is a leak that needs to be addressed.
  2. Worn Out Compressor: If the compressor fails to circulate refrigerant through a series of stages that allow it to remove heat from your vehicles cabin, your air conditioning will cease to function properly. Like other parts in your vehicle, the compressor can wear out over time.
  3. Electrical System Issues: Like many systems in your vehicle, your air conditioning relies upon the electrical system. When one or more of these issues ceases to function properly, the system will automatically shut down in order to prevent additional damage to the system itself.

During the heat of the summer keeping your vehicle’s fluids at proper levels is key to proper operation. During the complimentary check we ensure that the oil, transmission fluid, coolant level, and brake and power steering fluids are full and up to date.

Belts and Hoses

Often overlooked, old or cracked or worn belts and hoses can invited summertime overheating and breakdown. After winter, hoses can become cracked and brittle, and belts, which are especially prone to excessive wear in cold weather, can often need changing. Failure to have your belts and tubes regularly inspect can lead to leaks and breakage at inopportune times.

In hot weather worn tires can be especially prone to blowouts. Blowouts at highway speed are dangerous and avoiding them is critical. Often we think of our tires in bad weather, such as rain and snow. But summertime driving can be very hard on tires and inspecting tread and side walls for excessive wear and damage can keep you and your family safe all year round.
